Inclusiveness Cabinet

United Way of Allen County is working to build partnerships where diversity is valued.

To accomplish this goal, United Way established the Inclusiveness Cabinet. The cabinet looks to help foster a safe environment for diverse groups of people to work together and become involved in the non-profit arena.

Here is a brief description of the activities overseen by the Inclusiveness Cabinet:

PROJECT BLUEPRINT
United Way of Allen County is seeking participants for its seventh series of Project Blueprint classes, which are designed to recruit and train a diverse group of local residents to serve as members of boards, committees and other decision-making bodies in the community.

Classes begin June 1, 2011 and run through June 29, 2011. Applications are due May 11, 2011. The application is available for download here. Once selected, applicants are responsible for a $150 fee; workplaces may cover the costs for their employees. If you need assistance, please speak with a United Way representative to determine if a scholarship is available. Questions should be addressed to Antoinette Hunter at United Way of Allen County, 260-422-4776. Limited space is available.

The classes are a way to help local not-for-profit and human service agencies recruit a culturally diverse group of qualified individuals to serve on committees and boards. The graduates can then bring ideas to the table that might not currently be represented and will help reflect the experiences and perspectives of the entire community.

Project Blueprint consists of five, 90-minute classes that cover various topics such as finance, governance and marketing for not-for-profit agencies. Once participants complete the classes, they serve as interns on local agency boards or committees. Classes meet at the Carriage House at United Way of Allen County, at 11:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., on Wednesdays: June 1, June 8, June 15, June 22 and June 29, 2011.

Training modules include:
June 1 — Board Operations and Agency Relations
June 8 — Governance
June 15 — Finance
June 22 — Marketing and Fundraising
June 29 — Importance of Inclusiveness, wrap-up

STANDARDS FOR AGENCY PARTNERS
The Inclusiveness Cabinet is charged with overseeing an inclusiveness plan for United Way and its 37 agency partners and with providing assistance to those agencies in developing their internal evaluations and plans. All agencies are required to complete an inclusiveness plan to receive funding through United Way of Allen County.

DIVERSITY TRAINING
Diversity Training for United Way agency partners positions the organization as a catalyst for organizational change to eliminate barriers that would deny opportunities to people because of their race, age, gender or disability. Anti-discrimination and diversity training is also offered to United Way's employees, board and volunteers.
