A message from the 2010 Board President

Dear Community Member:

I am honored to be United Way’s 2010 Board Chair and I’m excited about the future of our organization. I’ve been involved with United Way for more than ten years, and in that time I have seen how the agency helps thousands of local residents each year by providing access to food, shelter, health care, tutoring, mentoring and so much more.

And, while I’m thrilled that United Way plays such an important role in the Allen County area, I know we can do more. With an unemployment rate that has been hovering around 10 percent for months, we know that many of our neighbors are hurting. Our allocation teams stretch the charitable dollars as far as possible, but there are always services that cannot be funded. There are still parents who need help paying to send their children to quality child care, there are individuals who can’t pay for a visit to the doctor, and there are still families who go hungry.

We live in one of the most compassionate communities I know, and over the next year, I hope to tap into that compassion and encourage more people to LIVE UNITED. I look forward to a United Way that can raise more dollars in order to provide the services that will create lasting changes in people’s lives.  I look forward to a United Way that continues to enthusiastically listen to the voice of all residents in order to improve our operations. And, I look forward to a United Way that will truly be the “Leading Voice for Human Well-Being” in Allen County —the organization that analyzes our issues and brings government, business and social services together to find the most efficient and effective solutions.

Together, we have accomplished much over the last 88 years. It’s time to renew our commitment and build an even stronger United Way, and in the process, a better Allen County.

Sincerely,

Ron Turpin
